Greetings. Wow it's actually been a dry day, today. Not a single shower in sight. Strange. It's really been a weird summer, sunny and warm in the mornings until around 2pm and then thunder showers and sometimes torrential downpours. Kinda feels like I've moved to Florida or something.
Anyway, it's Tuesday night, I am home alone and there is nothing worth watching on TV. I have the baseball game on in the background but I couldn't even tell you the score. Just haven't been all that keen to watch the games I guess. I am actually quite bored with TV these days and wonder if the Fall line up will capture my interest any. Survivor starts September 18, that's the only show I am looking forward to watching right now.
Nothing really new around here. I've been fairly busy at work, managing to get in quite a bit of overtime. Last week's paycheck was very very nice. I wish I could bring all that money home every week.
I got my car payment bill in the mail today and I only owe a little over $500 on my car. That's so friggen exciting! I bought this car all by myself almost 5 years ago and it is almost paid off! I'm hoping it will last another year so I can build up my savings account a bit and then I want to trade it in for a new one. I really have enjoyed my Elantra and it really is a nice reliable car, so I will probably buy another one. I'll decide after spending a winter driving to work from George's house. I'll be a little further northwest than I am now and the driving could be a whole lot worse than I am used to.
Saturday we are going to Meadowbrook to see Styx and Boston. I hope the weather is good, but as long as the show is on, we will be there. George has had the tickets for a couple of months now and we've been really looking forward to the show.
I spoke to Sara on the phone yesterday and she tells me she is now employed. It's about time. LOL She is now working as a receptionist at a dental office and she loves it. Of course it's only been a couple of days. How long that will last is anyone's guess. But hopefully it will last long enough so she can find another job before she quits. She's actually quite excited though so here's hoping. This could be the start of a whole new career.
In 2 weeks George and I are taking a weekend and going up to Snowfield Cabins in Pittsburg, NH. It's about a 3 hour drive north of the Lakes Region and pretty much touches the Canadian border. I have never been up there but it is an area that George knows well since he goes snowshoeing up there in the winter and hunting up there in the fall. He also spent many summers up there camping and exploring when he was a kid so I am looking forward to seeing just how beautiful God's Country is up there. I am told that it is nicknamed Moose Alley so I have a really good chance of seeing moose and bear. I've also heard stories about people packing picnic lunches and going up to the town dump in the early evening to watch the black bears romping through the fields. Apparently this is as much fun as going to a drive in movie! I can hardly wait. Sounds like a photo op to me!
Friday evening we met with my friend/former sister in law, Cathy. We had a blast hanging out and catching up and I have to admit, it seemed a whole lot like old times. We laughed all night long and I ended up getting pretty trashed on Mai Tai's. She's still the same ole girl and I wish we had gotten together a lot sooner. We plan on reconnecting though and this time we are going to make sure her brother Brian and his wife Louise can join us. George and I had originally talked about having a reunion with all of our old friends but we got word sometime in June that one of our friends, Debbie, is undergoing chemo treatments for colon cancer so we are going to wait until she is feeling better.
I guess I should think about getting ready for bed.
Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Scary Storms Today
For those interested and/or concerned, even though there has been really destructive weather in my area today, I am fine and my house and property have not been damaged. Others in nearby towns have not been so lucky. Still not sure if it was a tornado that touched down but there is at least 1 fatality and several people injured after a house collapsed. I still haven't heard from Eric and he lives in one of the areas affected but he could be at work. Hopefully he will call when he goes on his supper break. Power and phone lines are down and roads are covered with fallen trees and limbs. It is raining again and we are under a severe thunderstorm watch and flood warnings until later this evening. Didn't want anyone to worry.

So...
...today I decided to call Cathy, another old friend of mine. She was my best friend back in the latter days of high school and I had a huge crush on her brother Brian when I was around 18. Obviously that didn't work out. LOL But Cathy eventually married my brother and they had a child (Jason) together 29 or so years ago. The marriage broke up when Jason was young and mainly because we were both raising families, no longer related, and logistics, Cathy and I drifted apart. It wasn't by choice, or argument, or even family loyalty, it was just life. We did see each other at big events that brought our families together but our friendship was never really the same.
At my parents 4th of July BBQ, I asked my nephew for his mothers phone number. He said she would love to hear from me, in fact she had recently asked about me. So tonight I sat down, got comfortable, (I knew it would be a long call) and called. We talked for about an hour, and she was very happy to hear from me. It was great to hear her voice and we spent the whole time catching up, knowing we had just scratched the surface. I didn't want to use up all of her cell phone minutes so we are going to get together on Friday evening for a few drinks and a lot more reminiscing. She knew about me and George because Jason told her he met George on Easter at dinner, and when he described him and said it was someone that she would know from the 'old days', she knew it had to be him. Cathy also dated George very briefly back in the day but then again, Cathy dated everybody back in the day. LOL
Anyway, I am excited, and George is too. Should be fun.
Not much else going on around here. Just work and more work. Plenty of OT, which I like.
Just got off the phone with Sara. She had an interview this afternoon for a receptionist job at a dental office. She feels it went pretty well but she is trying not to get her hopes up. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm off to TV land before bed.

Weekend Update
It's been a fairly quiet weekend. George and I didn't really do a whole lot, just hung around like a couple of old farts and enjoyed each others company. Friday night we went out for supper and then came back to my place and watched Ghost Rider starring Nicholas Cage. It was ok, not really my kind of movie, but George is a Nick Cage fan and hadn't seen it before. George went home after the movie because he had errands to run Saturday morning at home. I also took the time Saturday morning to do laundry and food shopping. It was getting really hot by 11am so I turned on the A/C and did what I could to stay cool. Saturday afternoon George came back over and we just watched the ball game and BBQ'd some steaks for supper. Early evening we had a big thunder storm and lost power for awhile. Good thing we found something to keep us occupied.
This morning we went out for breakfast at the Longbranch restaurant. The prices are really cheap and the food is really good. It's a local breakfast and lunch hangout, only open from 5am-2pm, and I always run into someone I know. We then went to WalMart and George bought some jeans and collared summer shirts for work. While I was there, I was looking at a laptop that was on sale for $389. It's a Toshiba and I remember seeing it advertised that cheap back on Black Friday. It was offered as an early bird special to get you into the store and was only available at that price from 5am-9am. Naturally, they sold out in a matter of minutes, so I didn't even come close to getting one. Well today, there they were, at that price and there were 3 left in the store. Since I have Christmas money still and I never buy myself anything, I decided that today I was going to treat myself. Yay Me!
After WalMart, we went to visit my parents. The joke was on us though because no one was home. LOL We hung around for awhile then decided to just leave a note and move on. George wanted to see where I worked so we stopped there and I asked the guard if I could take him inside and give him the grand tour. The place was empty except for the two guards, so he gave George a visitor's badge and took his cell phone (it's a government contractor so no photo taking is allowed) and I showed him all around. Being in manufacturing (he's a manufacturing engineer) he could really appreciate the way the work stations and labs are laid out and the overall cleanliness of the building. It's really a nice place to work, and I think if he ever was in need of a job in the future, he might be able to find a nice home there.
From there, we came back here to my house and hung out until it was time for George to go on home. Since he left, I have cleaned off my desk and set up the laptop, painted my toenails (the color is called strawberry and my toes look delicious) and blogged. LOL What will I do for the rest of the day?? I know one thing, I am not used to getting up so early on a Sunday morning and I am feeling it a bit now. But look at all I've accomplished and it isn't even 5pm? I suppose I could make something for dinner.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Til next time.

Venting
It's really a shame when there is so little for the teenagers in town to do that they have to find alternative activities to keep them amused. Since I've been living in this quiet town, I have had several acts of vandalism done to my car, my front yard and my mailbox. I have had a couple of tires slashed on my car, I've had Christmas lights and decorations removed from my yard and smashed in the street. Someone broke my outside lamppost and smashed the bulb, I've had my car egged numerous times, and I don't dare carve pumpkins and place them outside on my porch anymore. My poor mailbox has been beaten beyond recognition on more than one occasion.
Last night I was just drifting off to sleep when I was startled by a loud BANG from right outside my window. I just barely saw tail lights as a car that had just driven by my house, continued over the hill just beyond my neighbors house. Not sure what I had heard, I went out onto the porch to see if I could see anything wrong. It was late and dark, but even without the outside lights on I could see my mailbox door was opened. I know I closed it when I retrieved the mail earlier, but sometimes it flips open if you don't shut it tightly. Nothing else looked amiss so I locked up and went back to bed.
This morning, when I left for work, I looked around again to see what may have been hit last night and that's when I noticed that the whole side of my mailbox was dented. I tried to close the door but it will only shut part way, the shape of the door doesn't fit the new shape of the mailbox, which looks like it was beaten with a very large baseball bat. This is a brand new mailbox, replaced just this spring when the ground thawed out, because my last mailbox took a major beating last Halloween.
I think I can bang it back into shape enough to be able to close the door, so at least my mail won't get wet in the rain or blow out of the box on a windy day. It just makes me so mad that these little thugs continue to be destructive and nothing can be done about it. Each year a new crop of hoodlums with brand new licenses and nothing to do, drive around town smashing mailboxes, egging houses and cars and tormenting animals.
Here's what my lovely mailbox looks like now. Maybe I will have to out a new mailbox on my Christmas list again this year. :-(

Now that I've vented, I guess I should get my butt in gear and finish some housework. I can see dust all over the coffee table and television.
Enjoy your Friday!
Oh and I went to the dentist today, and I had NO cavities! Yay ME!!

Another Weekend Gone
Was pretty busy all weekend so I haven't been around much. Not a whole lot of interesting stuff to blog but I did go to an awesome party yesterday. It sure does seem like I've been to a party every weekend for months...wait I HAVE! It just doesn't end.
Yesterday's party was for George's best friend Al, who turned 50 on July 1st. The party was given by his wife Marie and two daughters and it was a complete surprise to Al. He never saw it coming, probably because his birthday had come and gone. Al and George have been best friends (and each other's Best Man at their respective weddings) since they were in grade school. Although the Army separated them for a few years, they have always maintained a very close friendship. So when we got the invitation, we naturally had to go.
It was a beautiful afternoon and the party was held at one of Al's daughter's homes a short distance away from George's house. I would estimate about 50 people were there, and I actually knew 5 of them. There was food galore and an ice cold keg of Labatt's beer. I um, tapped (pun intended) into that and got a mighty good buzz going. Mmmmm Canadian beer is pretty good. Of course, it was pretty hot outside so you know, I had to keep hydrated. I wasn't driving so why not? LOL And before anyone asks, there were no baby gates for me to trip over and I managed to stay upright, although I know I was slurring my words just a tad by the time we headed home. There was a pool for those who wanted to go swimming (and for those who went swimming without really wanting to), their neighbor offered his horse shoe pit for those who wanted to do that and once it got dark, they started a fire in the fire pit and we all sat around and shot the breeze.
It was so good to see Al again. I think the last time I saw him was in 1980 and except for being bald now, he hasn't changed a bit. Marie is still a sweetheart and we have tentative plans for the 4 of us to get together real soon. George and I really enjoyed the whole day and hopefully someone will email one of us the group photo that was taken because I would really love to have a copy.
We got up this morning and decided to go out for breakfast at the resort when George's son is a chef. They have an awesome brunch there and Patrick will also make an omelet anyway you like. I had onions, green peppers, mushrooms and cheese in mine and George had ham and cheese. We also filled our plates with selections from the buffet, fruit and home fries, bacon, pancakes, french toast, waffles, there was so much to choose from. I skipped the dessert bar but OMG the Whoopie Pies looked so darn good. Maybe next time.
Just as we were finishing up, George's other son Jon and his fiancee Nikki showed up. We visited with them for awhile before going to WalMart, and then went back to his house. Before I left there to come home, I gave George a much needed haircut. I'm getting pretty good with the clippers. :-)
I also had to work on Saturday morning for a few hours. We are behind again so I will probably be working late every night this week. I don't mind, I can use the extra money.
Time to get myself ready for the upcoming week. Hope everyone had a nice weekend and has a good week.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation
Vacation is almost over. :-( Even though we took it easy, it was a good week. We managed to hit the beach Wednesday and went up to the mountains yesterday. Thursday we had a BBQ at my parents house. It was a bit more subdued than usual this year, but still good being with family. My niece, Crystal, is in the second trimester of her pregnancy and she is looking and feeling good. She had an ultrasound last week but the baby was not in a co-operating mood so they weren't able to tell her if it is a boy or a girl. Crystal was bummed but she 'feels' she is having a girl. Time will tell. LOL
Sara and Brad did not join us Thursday night because they are camping up in North Conway. She called me last night and said they are having a great time.
Yesterday, we took a ride up into the White Mountains and decided on a whim to take the Auto Road up to the Summit of Mt Washington. What a beautiful day for that and what a glorious ride! I am a bit ashamed to admit that I had never done that before and OH MY what I have been missing! I was like a kid in a candy store. So so freeking BEAUTIFUL! I still can't get over it. I took tons of pics and will include a few here, but the photos do not do that majestic mountain justice! It was definitely worth the $27 to drive up 6000+ feet, 8 miles up into the sky! You feel like you are on top of the world. If you have a fear of heights, don't go! LOL The road is winding and very narrow, pretty much only wide enough for 2 vehicles, with no guard rails on either side. It's a LONG way down, for sure, if you aren't paying attention. There are plenty of spots where you can pull over to absorb the gorgeous scenery and take pics, but I took most of them while we were moving so some of them aren't as sharp as they could be. Still, I think you can get a pretty good idea of how beautiful it is up there.
We definitely are going to go up again and the next time I will drive so George can enjoy everything as I did. He's been up there a few times but always was the driver and had to really watch the road.

We Could See for 100 miles

I have a lot more but that's a glimpse of the beauty I witnessed yesterday.
Today we are kicking back and just relaxing. I think we did a bit too much yesterday and the poor guy is looking a bit tired today. He's actually taking a nap right now on the sofa. I just went down to the farm around the corner from George's house and picked up some fresh strawberries to make strawberry shortcake tonight for dessert. They look delicious! We'll probably just cook something on the grill for dinner and watch the Red Sox/Yankees game a bit later on TV. I think there is a race on too, sometime today.
Happy Independence Day (a day late) to you all!

Birthday Party Pics
Just a few pictures taken at Alex's birthday party this afternoon. It was a really nice time. The weather could have been better but the rain held off until the festivities were over. We had hot dogs and burgers on the grill, chips, beverages and of course CAKE!! We only stayed a couple of hours. Even though I can see improvement every day, George's energy level is not up to par yet and we didn't want to push it.
It's My Birthday!

Alex on his new Train

Presents!!

Calissa

It is pouring rain out there right now which is a shame because it's the Old Home Day celebration in Tilton (the next town over from where George lives) and they were scheduled to have a big firework display tonight. They plan for this all year and Mother Nature has to throw a monkey wrench in the fun. :-(

It's Almost Vacation Time
Woohooo! One more day and I am on vacation until July 8th. It doesn't seem like it's almost July. The weather has been a bit humid and rainy over the last couple of weeks but not all that warm. Yesterday was probably the nicest day we've had in 2 weeks with temps in the mid 80's and sun all day with no humidity. Today started out promising but soon turned cloudy and it is now raining lightly. The air is also quite heavy.
George also has next week off but we don't have any major plans set in stone. He is still recovering from pneumonia and although he has gone into work everyday this week, he hasn't worked a full day and is pretty tired by the time he gets home. I feel he should have taken this week off as well to fully recover but since he already has next week off, he felt he had to at least make an appearance at work this week. His boss has taken pity on him and hasn't loaded him up with projects. She's also been real generous about letting him leave whenever he wanted.
I have some major house stuff to do at least a couple of days next week, meaning I plan on doing some sorting and tossing whatever I don't need or want anymore. I've got a lot of junk here and also a lot of good stuff that I really won't need to take with me. If I can weed out the stuff going to the dump, then I can tag everything I don't plan on taking with me and I can have a BIG house sale. It's going to be a big project but the sooner I get started, the easier my transition will be. With heating oil as high as it is, it would be really nice if I can be out of here before winter.
We've decided that we are going to postpone the camping trip at least until later in the summer. Boo Hoo can you see my tears? LOL I would like to take a day trip to the beach one day and walk around, do a little shopping and have a nice seafood dinner somewhere. York Beach in Maine is a really nice place to walk around, the shops are nice and it's not as crowded as Hampton Beach. There's also a lighthouse called Nubble Light that is a nice attraction and a fairly decent place to just sit and enjoy the sun. I used to go up there often all by myself with a folding chair and a book, to just relax. You can just watch the crowds come and go, enjoy the surf, or watch people fishing. I'm not much of a beach person, really. I can't see the point of greasing myself up and laying in the sun and the water is way too cold for me to swim in. So we will pick a day that's not so hot and humid and relax. I wish I had known that last weekend was the sand castle competition at Hampton Beach. I would have liked to see all of the creations and take some pics to share. But of course, I found out a day too late. Maybe I will be on the ball next year.
We are also going to get out passport pics done and get our passports. Who knows when we might want to take a trip up to Canada in the future? George has a lot of family in the Montreal area and we both want to go back to Toronto one of these days. We are also talking about maybe taking a cruise next winter. Might as well be prepared!
On July 3rd, we are having a family BBQ. I'm not sure if we will be at my parents house or my brother's house, but I imagine if it is hot we will gather at my brother's because he has a pool. Either way, I am looking forward to it since it is always a good time.
George and I are also planning a reunion BBQ for all of our friends that we hung out with back in high school. We've talked to quite a few and they are all on board. It will be an awesome time especially since I haven't seen a lot of these people in 25-30 years. I think we are shooting for the last weekend in July, and I can hardly wait, it will be a WHOLE lot of fun. These are all people we partied with in my parents basement just about every weekend. Should be a lot of funny pictures from that party, I'll tell you what. If everyone drinks half as much as they did back then, there will be plenty of Kodak moments. I'm thinking maybe I should invite my parents too...I think they would get a kick out of seeing how everyone turned out. We were all a little wild and crazy but no one has done jail time. LOL
Saturday is little Alex's 2nd birthday. We are going to his birthday party in the afternoon but I imagine we won't stay very long. It will all depend on how hot and humid it gets and how George feels. We missed the graduation parties last weekend and I was a bit sad about that but it couldn't be helped. We did send cards along with Jon and Nikki, and we were there in spirit.
It is a race weekend here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend. I saw a bunch of the big tractor trailers carrying the race cars up the highway off and on during the week. Add that to all the folks taking their vacation starting this weekend, and that makes for some heavy traffic. Oh joy! ;-)
I hope everyone has been having a good week so far.
Congrats to Kerry on getting her driver's license this week!

A Quick Hello
It's been a long time since I've had to play nursemaid but I think my hard work is finally paying off. I can actually see some improvement in George today, although he is still coughing quite a bit. The doctor said his improvement would be very gradual and he has finally kicked the fever, but he is still getting head and body aches and can hardly speak more than a few words before another coughing fit begins. Of course I have had to do all the talking and he only fell asleep on me a couple of times. I am going to blame that on the fever and meds kicking in rather than him being bored. :-) He did finally eat a real meal today for the first time since Saturday so there is hope. I'm not sure if he will be well enough to go to work on Monday but we will see. Viral pneumonia is not a whole lot of fun. :-(
After work today I went shopping for a birthday present for George's grandson. Alex will be 2 on the 28th and that is also the day of his party. I got him some Thomas the Tank Engine stuff and a couple of outfits for the summer. He's such a cutie pie, I can't wait to see the excitement on his face.
Tomorrow would normally be my "off' Friday but I have to go in for at least half a day. Work has been crazy lately. We've had parts shortages and so many little problems that now we are behind schedule. Hopefully we will make our shipment on Tuesday but if not, we should only be 1 day late at the worst. I guess going in tomorrow will be a small price to pay to get this done. I have put in for a weeks vacation for the week of July 4th, and I want to make sure I can still have it off.
I don't have too much to post, just been busy with work, domestic duties and force feeding fluids and medication. Hopefully I will have a more interesting post next time.

Party Pics
Iggy, you crack me up. LOL I was never unconscious but it was a damn good party! It's taken me awhile to find some time to download pics and all but I have several for your viewing pleasure.
As I said in my previous post, George had a pretty good idea that lunch with Jon and Nikki was just a front for a party. I lied my ass off, right up until we pulled into the driveway. By then there was no need to lie any longer since several of the guys were outside cooking on the grill. George saw them and gave me a look. I, of course, acted innocent but he knew better. We parked the car and greeted everyone, then headed inside. It was already 95 degrees outside and very humid, so we all grabbed some plates full of food and went inside where there was some air conditioning. George made the rounds and the biggest surprise was seeing my kids and Jessie and Brad there. He was very happy to see them, and he hugged them all. (He's a big hugger.) I hadn't seen his brother Ray in about 30 years and when he saw me, he grabbed me and put a huge bear hug on me. He introduced me to his wife Diane, and she and I hit it off right away. I do remember her from school but I was a couple of years younger than her and she didn't recognize me. We talked for awhile and then I went to visit with my kids. As I was talking to Sara, I looked around the room and I couldn't believe my eyes. There sat George's wife, talking to her son Patrick. All I could think was, WTF is she doing here? I can certainly understand her being at a party for one of her kids or grandkids, but why on earth is she at her soon to be ex husband's birthday party? I have nothing against her, believe me. Her cheating on her husband and leaving her family has actually made my life better. If it wasn't tacky, I would actually thank her. LOL But...come on. (Found out later that she was invited by her son Jon, against daughter Nicole's wishes, which also explained why Nicole was in a bad mood.) Well, it didn't change anything, because I didn't let her bother me. In fact, once again, she didn't speak to me nor did she talk to very many there. I think she had to be quite uncomfortable anyway, seeing how my kids were socializing with her kids and everyone was having a really good time getting to know each other. Her own sister Bev was there and they still aren't speaking to each other, but Bev and I talked and she is a sweetheart.
Anyway, we had cheeseburgers, hot dogs, potato and pasta salad, assorted chips, dip, and of course, the cake. It was done up in the shape of a cheeseburger, and was cleverly done. Tasted damn good too! Everyone was having a wonderful time, and Nicole took quite a few pictures, which I have included in this post. There was $135 folded up and tied to the money tree, and George also got cards with cash in them, some DVD's, an Eagles CD, and the digital camera that I got him. Everyone had a great time, and George was very happy.

So there ya have it. Surprise party over and I don't have to lie again until next year! LOL
We had some really hot and humid weather over the weekend and I am glad that the humidity has taken a break. We hit 102 on Tuesday and it was really uncomfortable. It's actually quite pleasant outside now, about 70, and I went for a walk a little bit ago.
I suppose I should get the towels folded and put away. One more day of work this week and then I can enjoy a couple of days off. We have events planned every Saturday for the entire month with two graduation parties and a birthday party still to go. We are also going to George's nephew's high school graduation on Tuesday. Busy Busy!
Enjoy the rest of the week and the weekend!

Lucky B*tch Day
Off Friday...AAAAHHHHHHH. It felt good to sleep in this morning. I never woke up until 7 but didn't get up until 8.
Apparently the "surprise" will be removed from George's surprise birthday party. Last night he asked me if he should start practicing his surprise face. I asked why, and he said he was fairly sure that lunch with Nikki and Jon was just a front for a surprise party. It's a good thing I was on the phone because I am not sure I could have kept a straight face. I did my best to convince him otherwise but I don't think I was very successful. He said he was giving Jon a hard time regarding the time we were supposed to show up at Jon's Condo and Jon was getting flustered and insisting that 1:15 was the best time to go to lunch. He also said he knows I am in the middle of it all somehow. Hmmm Ya think?? I tried to prove that I wasn't, but he has an answer for everything. I'm still going along like I know nothing, and hopefully the actual surprise will be some of the guests that we've invited. There are a few people coming that he hasn't seen in several years so that will be a fun reunion.
It's pouring down rain today, how wonderful. We do need the rain and I have nothing planned today that requires me to be outside, except for a trip to the bank, but that can wait until a little later. Hopefully the rain will slow down some later on. I was insightful enough to pick up groceries yesterday on my way home from work, so that's another chore done.
We've had a really good spring so far and the only rain we've had has been in the last few days. It is supposed to warm up tomorrow into the mid 80's and 90's on Sunday with lots of humidity. I'm not a fan of the humidity but some warm weather would really be welcomed.
Sara has been trying get settled in her new home but she's come up against some roadblocks in getting her change of address taken care of and her car stuff dealt with. She needs to get her car registered and inspected but she can't do that until she can prove residence and she also needs to insure her car in Massachusetts. She should have listened to me and registered her car here in NH last month when it was due. But she figured she would just deal with it all down there. But now she is trying to take care of all that while driving an unregistered and non inspected car...not good. I just hope she doesn't get stopped. She can't afford a fine on top of everything else. She's been there a week and I could hear the frustration in her voice. She also needs her birth certificate (which I have) to take care of some of these things. I'll be seeing her tomorrow at the party so I will get that to her.
Time to get some things done around here.
Have a wonderful weekend!

A Little Blogging
I hope everyone is doing well and you are all able to enjoy some nice weather. The month of May has been very good to New Hampshire except for the fire dangers all around the state. We've not had much rain all month so everything is pretty dry. Saturday afternoon we had several small thunderstorms roll in but they were all quick hitting producing very little lightening and only a trace of rain. We didn't have any plans to worry about either so we just enjoyed a quiet afternoon inside with a movie.
Friday night my sweet daughter moved out of her apartment and into her boyfriends family's house. Of course, that meant a pit stop at my house to store some of her things that she doesn't have room for at the moment. As I watched box after box follow the bed, dresser and desk, I realized that more stuff was actually being moved into my house than out. Her room is now jam packed and she claims she will be over one day this week to organize it some, but I won't hold my breath on that actually happening this week. I did remind her, however, that I am also going to be sorting out my own stuff and purging the house in the coming months before I move up North, so she will eventually have to move her stuff into storage. She has her eyes on some of my things anyway so a storage unit might not be a bad idea until they are ready to get their own place. I am hoping to have my house up for sale by the spring, if not sooner. Ideally I would love to be moved out of here before winter hits. If I can get this place shaped up enough to put it on the market by then, I most certainly will. I'm in no rush, but the thought of paying a ridiculous heating oil bill this winter is quite motivating. I do realize we will be paying for heat at George's place but he heats his house with a pellet stove which is far more economical than oil.
This coming Sunday is George's 50th birthday. His daughter Nicole and soon to be daughter in law Nikki, have been planning a surprise birthday party for him on Saturday for the last 6 weeks. They've got BBQ theme decorations and ordered a cake shaped and decorated like a cheeseburger. (Cheeseburgers are George's favorite food.) They even found confetti in the shape of ketchup bottles and spatula's. They took up a collection from all the guests interested in contributing and are making up a money tree for him instead of gifts. I have no idea how much they collected but Nikki said it was 'a ton'. (I got him a Cannon digital camera which I hope he likes.) I am sure he thinks something is going on but hopefully he will think it will be on Sunday and we will surprise him on Saturday. Both of my kids and their significant others will be there as well, which I am sure will make him happy. He's been trying to get all of our kids together for weeks now but something always comes up. Hopefully I can get some good pics to share.
The next few weekends are going to be pretty busy. Two of George's nephews are graduating from high school and we've been invited to both graduation parties, both on the same day, one at noon and the other at 3pm. At least they are graduating from the same high school so we will only have to go to one Graduation. Then we have George's grandson's birthday party at the end of the month. He will be 2. I also have a Saturday afternoon when I am meeting a couple of girlfriends for lunch. We were unable to do that last month so we definitely have to squeeze it in this month.
I have taken the first week of July off from work. We were given the option to have it off without pay or we can use our vacation time, or we can work in another department. I have plenty of time so I took the week off. I think George's job has a shut down that week anyway so we will be able to do something together, even if it is camping. (Yeah, I will complain but I will go.)
I suppose I should get moving here and get the dishes washed. I am enclosing a picture of The Huntababes, resting comfortably after his long weekend field trip. He sure does look tired, doesn't he?

Have a great week everyone!

A Busy Memorial Day Weekend
Another long weekend has come to an end. What beautiful weather we had here in New Hampshire. Sunny, 70's yesterday and 80's today. Last night the sky was cloudless for the Kick off to Summer fireworks in Manchester. Today was really quite warm and I actually got some color on my arms and face from sitting on the deck while I read.
Friday was a day off for me and I pretty much ran errands all morning and then took my car in for a State Inspection and an oil change. I then met up with George and we had dinner at the 99 Restaurant. I had smothered steak tips, mmm mmm good. George had steak and ribs and he said they were really delicious as well. We called it an early night because he had to work in the morning. But we had plans to get together the following afternoon so I had something to look forward to.
Saturday I packed up the doggie and myself and headed to George's house. Once there, we let Hunter roam around and inspect his new digs for the weekend. He did really well considering he can't see a darn thing. He just put his nose to the floor and walked the perimeter of the house, familiarizing himself with the lay of the land. Patrick was there with his girlfriend so Hunter was happy to meet some new friends. It's really difficult to watch him bump into things with his nose and forehead and Kiley wanted to pick him up and carry him everywhere he went, but he walks fairly slow and I don't think he hurts himself. At least I hope not.
Once we were sure he was settled, we went to visit Rose and Steve. They don't live too far from George's house so I have a feeling I will be seeing my best friend a lot more once I move North. She had a birthday gift for me (a book I wanted by Christopher Moore) and we visited for several hours. Around 7 we started for home but ended up stopping at a Diner for a bite to eat. It was a lot of fun, 50's music and entertainment for the kids. Well we don't have any young kids but we enjoyed this dude dressed in funny clothes wandering around making balloon animals for all the kids in there. When we got home, Patrick was about ready to leave for his cruise to the Bahama's, so we wished him bon voyage and sent him off. He is going with a group of about 15 kids from school. They were setting sail on Sunday afternoon but had to endure a long bus ride to NYC.
It was a beautiful morning Sunday, in the North Country. We got up early, took a drive around Lake Winnisquam and stopped for breakfast. We then went back to the house and George mowed while I sat out on the deck with Hunter and my new book. It was a nice relaxing day, really. We went to the cemetery before we went to my parents house for a BBQ that evening and played cards for awhile with an aunt and uncle that had also stopped over to visit. My brother Henry was there and my niece and nephew as well. We had a fun evening.
This morning I can actually say I slept in a bit, although not as late as I would have liked. I made breakfast and we sat out on the deck for awhile before I had to pack up and head home. Just as I was about ready to leave, George's son Jon and his fiancee arrived so I ended up staying a bit longer. They are a very sweet couple, planning a wedding for next April. I knew traffic was going to be a nightmare heading south, (it was more like a bad dream) so I did want to get on the road before it got too late. I left around 1PM and the ride took me about 70 minutes, not too bad considering that both lanes on the southbound side of the highway were packed and moving fairly steady but crawling along in spots. I just saw a little blurb on the local news with a live traffic report and I am glad I left when I did. It looks a whole lot worse now.
I got home around 2:15, unpacked and did a load of laundry. I also went out to get some groceries, and set all of the trash out by the curb. It's still 80 degrees out and I think it will be a warm night tonight. I am pretty warm right now, but not warm enough to turn on the AC. They are predicting some thunderstorms this evening so maybe it will cool things off a bit.
All in all, I had a great weekend. Hunter is sleeping in his favorite spot on the sofa and seems fine after his adventure. He travels quite well, kind of excited when we first got into the car but settled down after awhile. He doesn't get out much. LOL
I am not looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow but I guess a four day work week isn't quite so bad. Hopefully it will go by as quickly as the weekend does. Doubtful, but I can still hope.
I hope you all had a great weekend and a wonderful week.
Me
Friday was a day off for me and I pretty much ran errands all morning and then took my car in for a State Inspection and an oil change.
Happy Birthday to Me!
It's been a really busy weekend and I am ready for a nap. After finishing this post, I hope I can lay down on the sofa for a bit and just chill. I should be doing laundry but it can wait another day.
Work was really slow on Friday. Actually it has been slow for several days now and it doesn't look like it is going to improve much in the next couple of weeks. We just finished our months shipments and won't be getting another kit on the floor to start work for next month's shipments until the last week of May. Not a really good way to run a production line if you ask me, especially when we have a 14 day lead time, but I guess that is why I am not a Supervisor or a Manager. To break up the monotony, I went on the computer and found a word search making web site and proceeded to create some work related word search puzzles. These included a list of parts we use and terms written in the work instructions we all use. My supervisor made copies and handed out the puzzles after getting approval from Dave. I was actually surprised he went along with it, because he is usually a stick in the mud about such things. But he seemed impressed and said it was fine as long as we shred the puzzles after. It took a little while to complete and passed the time with a little bit of fun.
Friday night George and I went out for our usual pizza and beer. The wait staff is starting to get to know us quite well now as we are in there about every other week.
Saturday morning I slept in some and then ran a few errands before driving up to George's house. We were going to his son in law, Matt's, birthday party at 2 and we still had to pick something up for Nikki, who's birthday was earlier in the week. I think next year we should celebrate all the May birthdays in one shot instead of individually. Anyway, I got there around noon time and we headed out. We ended up getting to the party early, which was fine because it was nice to socialize with the kids before everything got crazy. What I didn't know was George's not quite ex wife was going to be there as well. It shouldn't matter to me because I was invited by Nicole so I knew she wanted me to be there, but I knew it was going to make for an awkward situation. I was right. Thankfully I already know the kids and grandkids and one of the other guests, Matt's father Mike. I actually worked with Mike for several years at the last job I had. Donna and I didn't speak, and she only spoke to George when she needed someone to open a bottle and he was standing right there. I could feel the tension in the air. I really didn't enjoy myself, my stomach was in knots for most of the afternoon. She was the one who had an affair and left her marriage, but it still was very uncomfortable for me.
We left around 4:30 and decided to go have dinner out, since I hadn't been able to eat a thing at the party. We went to Newick's in Concord which is a really nice seafood restaurant. There was a long wait but we decided to sit at the bar and eat there. It's a nice casual atmosphere and we watched some of the ball game and chatted with the bar tender. I started to relax at once and enjoyed my scallops and onion rings.
We went to my house after and once we got there, George asked me if I wanted to birthday present early. Well hell yeah! I love presents! I opened the card and taped inside was a key to his house. We have been talking about me moving up there eventually, like months from now, but this made it official. It's so exciting!!
Then he handed me another card, and inside was a poem he wrote. As I was reading the poem, he slipped a little gold and diamond ring on my finger. I could hardly finish reading the poem through the tears, but lets just say, there will be a bigger ring in the future. This is a promise of what's to come, once all the legal stuff is behind us and we can officially start our life together. Who knew that boy was such a romantic? He'd been hanging onto that ring for several weeks and he couldn't hold out any longer. I love his heart and I've never been this happy.
The ring is a bit big for my finger and it has to be resized but I snapped a quick pic .

Today, was another day of surprises. After an early breakfast, George tells me he is taking me out for lunch. Right around the same time, Jessie calls to wish me a Happy Birthday. She passes the phone to Eric and he tells me they are going out for brunch but they would like to stop over afterwards. So we plan to catch up around 4PM.
George and I head out for lunch but he wants to go to the Back Room, which is a really nice place but kind of expensive. Since he already took me out for dinner the night before, I protested a little bit but he told me to hush, let him spoil me if he wants to. Imagine my surprise when we walked in and there's my dad, Eric, Jessie, Sara and Brad sitting in the lobby waiting for a table. My mom is in Montreal this weekend, otherwise she would have been there too. This was all Sara's doing since last year my birthday was pretty much forgotten because of her college graduation on the same day and we also had to move her out of her dorm. She and George have been emailing back and forth to plan the whole thing for a couple of weeks.
It was a great surprise and lunch was fantastic. There was so much food, it was unbelievable. Most of us had chicken cooked one way or another, and George had a huge steak. Eric and Jessie had seafood. I couldn't have asked for a better day, or weekend for that matter.
Now I sit here still full to the gills and ready for a nice long nap. I have several to go boxes in my fridge from all of the lunches and dinners out. I shouldn't have to cook for a week.
It is back to work tomorrow and I am not looking forward to that. The only good thing about it is I only have to work 4 days and then I am off for 4 days for Memorial Day Weekend. I just hope the week goes by fast.

Happy May!
I hope all you Mom's had a nice Mother's Day. I had a great weekend, very busy and very nice. George took me out for breakfast on Sunday and then we went to visit my mom. I brought her a pot of Stargazer Lily's and we visited for awhile. Then we went over to the cemetery to visit George's Mother's grave. She died on Mother's Day so he makes sure he places flowers at her grave every Mother's Day. Shortly after we got back to my house, Eric and Jessie came over and we ended up going out for supper at Applebees. We had a nice time, chatting and catching up with the kiddos. Sara called right after we got back home and wished me a Happy Mother's Day. I thought she had spent the weekend in Massachusetts but found out she had been at her apartment all weekend. I was a little disappointed that she didn't make it over here but oh well. When I got home from work this evening, she had left a card on the table for me. She always manages to find the perfect cards so I am happy with that.
Saturday was also very busy. George had his daughter, her husband and two kids over for a BBQ. It was a lot of fun watching the kids be kids, they are really amazing little characters. Callissa now calls me by my real name so 'Auntie Ann' has been retired. She said she has been practicing and she was so proud. What a sweetheart. Alex is also getting more comfortable with me and decided that he and I should play Legos. Meaning, I built something and he took it apart. He will be 2 in June. He's a crazy lil guy and I wouldn't be surprised if testing for ADHD is in his future.
It seems that all of my water problems have been fixed. The pump seems to be doing it's job and my hot water tank enables me to enjoy a nice hot shower once again. It sure is nice to not have to heat water on the stove in order to do dishes too! Hopefully all of my bumps in the road are done for the time being. I have been trying to clean out the house some. I have a lot of junk that I am never going to use and Goodwill has been reaping the benefits. I actually found some casserole dishes in the closet from my wedding that I have never opened. If I haven't needed them in 20+ years, I guess I won't be needing them ever, so off they went.
The same goes for clothes that have been collecting dust in my closet. I look at some of this stuff and ask myself...what was I thinking?
I had Friday off and pretty much ran errands most of the morning. I also got my car registered. Jon is going to inspect it for me next week so it will be all set for another year. In August I will have it all paid off. I still have another 25,000 miles on my warranty so I will hang onto the car for awhile longer and hopefully save what I would have been paying out. My bank account needs a little help these days. :-(
My dad came home from Las Vegas on Thursday and he had a blast. He goes every couple of years with one of his brothers and some assorted family members. My mother doesn't care to go along because it is too much walking for her but Dad enjoys all of that stuff and it is good for him to keep busy. I asked him if he won big bucks and he quickly told me that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...so I take that to mean hell yes but don't tell your mother! LMAO
It smells really nice in my house today because I stole some lilacs off of my mom's lilac bush yesterday. They are out in the kitchen but I can smell them here in the computer room. I love them so much...I wish they were available for a longer period of time.
Ok It is time to get off here and get some things done. I am making the sauce for my lasagna which I will assemble tomorrow for Wednesday night's dinner. I love lasagna but it takes so long to get everything ready, so I usually make it in stages. I usually make a huge pan of lasagna but it will be too much for just George and myself, so I am going to make 2 smaller ones and freeze one of them. Then when the craving hits again, I will be ahead of the game.
Have a wonderful week.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr
Here I am sitting at home once again waiting for a repairman. It has been a very expensive couple of months and hopefully today won't cost me another $800 like I am suspecting. Owning a home can really suck sometimes, especially when you are broke from the start and it's an old home.
Last Sunday George and I tackled the water pump problem head on since it finally died sometime during the night on Friday. He would have come down and done it on Saturday but he had to work and couldn't get out of it. He does machine service and repair work on a contract basis for the company he used to work for a couple of years ago. Anyway, it turned out the motor on the water pump was seized and had to be replaced. Trying to find a water pump on a Sunday was nearly impossible but he called a Well Pump and Repair service and they had one and were willing to come out on a Sunday at no additional cost. So by 2PM I had a new water pump and great water pressure. All was well with the world until last night. I got home from dinner with George, his son Patrick and Patrick's girlfriend Kiley, and had no water pressure at all. I went outside to the pump house and I could hear the pump running and it was really hot. I hit the power switch and shut it down, then called the repair guy. He sent me around the house looking for an open faucet or something and then I found water on the bathroom floor by the hot water tank. I can't tell if it's the tank itself or the pipes surrounding it that are leaking so here I sit waiting for the service guy to show up. I am hoping that I won't have to replace the new water pump. The pump itself is under warranty but I am wondering if it will be covered if the under lying problem is not directly related to the pump. George can replace the water heater at very little cost so I'm not too concerned about that. I am just hoping that the new pump hasn't been damaged.
On a happier note, as mentioned, I finally met the youngest of George's kids. Pat is in college studying culinary arts and restaurant management. He is a carbon copy of his father 30 years ago, very sweet with a huge smile. He was a lot more talkative than I expected and that made it a lot less nerve wracking for me. I tend to babble when I get nervous and I probably sound like an idiot. LOL
After dinner we all went over to the sporting goods store to check out tenting and fishing equipment. I don't plan on going fishing but I may have to give in and go camping. I do hope George realizes I do not sleep on the ground and I will be a pain in the ass the whole time. My idea of roughing it is going to the Motel 6. Oh well, he will learn. LOL
So work has been rather slow lately but I am managing to look busy for most of the day. When I am not busy, I hide out in the office in front of my computer. So far no one has caught on yet. Today is moving day at work though and darn it I am going to miss it. It seems to be a regular thing in that building, moving departments around. We are moving back into the room we were in a year and a half ago and I can't make any sense out of why so I won't even try. I just go where they tell me to.
OK I guess I better get dressed since the repair dude will be here in an hour or so.
Keep your fingers crossed for me, please!
Update 10:52 am:
The water pump is working just fine now but I have a leak in my hot water tank which was causing the pump to work overtime. Every time the pump would pump water into the tank it would drain out causing the pump to pump more water in...etc, etc. I have water but no hot water, so I have to get a new hot water tank installed. Looks like another job for Super George!
