Canadian OCHA's

I saw a few things in Canada that immediately made me think of IntenseGuy so I grabbed my camera and took a few pics before I got caught. I am not really sure what Canadian OCHA's are like, especially ones who are lined up trying to cross the border. They could have gone nutso on me for all I knew so I snapped fast but this is what I got. These are especially for you Iggy!

I saw these OCHA's trying to cross the border into the USA but the Canadian officials were having no part of that. They were lined up one by one for about a mile while the Canadian officials searched their belongings for proper Identification.

This one was happy to pose for a picture.

One good thing was the drug sniffing dogs that are usually all around the Inspection Station were all busy searching a non OCHA vehicle so they didn't have time to lift their legs on the OCHA's (although I think that would have been quite funny.)

The next pic is of an American OCHA sitting on the road in New Hampshire. He was also in a long line but didn't seem too upset about that.

The rest of his friends were all waiting for a moose sighting so they could tell their families all about it. It certainly would have made their trip up North well worth while!

This totally answers any questions about whether or not OCHA's reside in foreign countries. I am not really sure if they were trying to escape or just visiting. I guess that would be a good thing to investigate next trip into Canada. :-)

Early Morning Visitor

Ever since I moved up here to the Lakes Region from the Seacoast area, I've been hearing about all of the wildlife I will be seeing. We live in a very wooded area about 6 miles from Lake Winnisquam, and I always have my eyes opened, hoping to see something, anything. I've seen hummingbirds, blue jays and robins, cats, dogs and horses, but none of that was anything new for me. A few weeks ago I did see 13 deer grazing in a field a couple of miles down the road but unfortunately I didn't have a camera.
Yesterday, after stepping out onto the deck, this is what I saw. Mr. Bear was just coming out of the woods behind the deer target. My heart was thumping like mad but I grabbed my camera and got off a couple of shots before he went around to the front yard and then up the hill and across the road. Obviously he was taking an early morning stroll, perhaps looking for some breakfast.

We are really careful not to leave any garbage outside and we don't have any bird feeders out in the yard because we don't want to attract any bears. George has seen moose and bear tracks out in the woods behind the house and our neighbor has had moose in his driveway, so hopefully one day I will see a moose too. That would be really cool.

I have a few errands and chores to take care of today on my day off. We are leaving early tomorrow morning for Quebec City so I need to finish the laundry and pack for a couple of days. Then I have to get to the pharmacy and pick up a few things like panty hose, mouthwash and something else that escapes my mind at gthe moment.
Later this afternoon I am going to drop Hunter off at Eric and Jessie's house for the weekend. I hope he doesn't terrorize their cats too badly. LOL

Sunday we will be at the Basillica in Ste. Anne De Beaupre, Quebec, for the Ordination. George's cousin Gerald will be ordained one of the youngest Bishops in the world. The family is very proud and I am very excited to witness such an event.
I hope to have plenty of pictures next week.

For now I am off to finish laundry and take my shower.
Have a great day and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Today Is My Birthday, Today Is My Birthday!!

It's Monday, mid May, sunny and a little chilly this morning but should warm up a bit as the day goes along. It's also my birthday today...52 years ago I came into this world kicking and screaming at 1:45 AM. Birthdays aren't a big deal to most people but I don't care how old I am, I like birthdays!! It's not about presents, it's about C A K E!! LOL I think everyone should have a cake on their birthday.
Last week we celebrated several birthdays in our family. On Tuesday, Jon's new wife, Nikki, turned 23. On Friday, Nicole's husband, Matt, turned 31. Saturday we had a nice party out on the deck at Nicole's house. We had a fairly nice day and a lot of fun. I always enjoy being around George's kids and grandkids. But the one person I really enjoy is Matt's mother, Marsha. What a sweetheart! She always makes me feel welcomed and she's a lot of fun. We seem to have a lot in common and we are becoming fast friends.
The first time I met her was a year ago at Matt's birthday party and it was the first time I met most of the extended family and also the first time I was to see George's then soon to be ex wife in like 25 years. Of course the circumstances were quite different now and I was very nervous. My stomach was a mess and I could barely eat anything. Marsha must have sensed my nerves and discomfort and she took me under her wing, made me a stiff drink and talked with me for a good part of the afternoon. It helped, immensely. We formed a bond. LOL She knew exactly what I was going through because she had been in the same situation years ago. I will be forever grateful for her thoughtfulness.

The rest of the weekend was pretty good too. Saturday morning I got my car inspected and then George and I went groccery shopping. I bought all the things I needed to make my sauce for lasagna, which I made yesterday. It was really yummy. We also watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button yesterday afternoon. Very different and good movie. I loved it! Last night was the Survivor finale, which was also quite good, although predictable. I was happy JT won...he deserved it.

So today, it is back to the grind. I am planning to skip out of work right on time today, no overtime. I am going to meet George at The Common Man restaurant after work and have a nice birthday dinner. I have no idea when I will hear from my kids but I know they won't forget my birthday. They better not!

I don't care what else happens today but there better be a cake involved. I prefer chocolate...but will settle for any type as long as there is frosting! :-)
I want you all to have a great day today...as your gift to me. And...have some cake!

Post Mother's Day Post

I had last Friday off work and hoped to finally post something worth reading but ditched my initial plans in the morning (lounging around the house drinking coffee and playing on the computer) since the weather was finally nice. I ended up getting up fairly early, got the laundry going and then took off to run errands. I made several stops, post office, gas station, library, Wal-mart and Town Hall to get my car registered. I was heading back home when I decided to turn right and go down to where George works and surprise him at his lunch break.

He sauntered out of the building and I heard the beep of his car door locks before I saw him. I parked right next to his car but he didn't notice me right away, probably because I drive the same kind of car he does. Yes even the color is the same, how weird is that? He spotted me and jumped a little, then a huge grin spread across his face. I know he had no clue I would be there so it was a nice surprise. We only has a half hour break so we drove over to McD's and he got a couple of cheeseburgers. I picked at his fries and got an iced mocha. (those damn things are delicious by the way) We chatted a bit, I showed him my loot from WalMart and then I took him back to work. It was a nice little break. He is the sweetest man I have ever met and I know he especially appreciates the little things in life, like a surprise visit in the middle of the day from his wife.
After that I went home, put my stuff away and watched the soaps. I never have a chance to do that since I am usually at work, but it was fun to catch up and see what's been going on in Pine Valley and Llanview. LOL

Saturday George and I, my Dad and Eric and Sara all met at my other house to do a final clean up. We borrowed Jon's truck and filled it with big items we haven't been able to move, like my mattress and box spring, my china hutch and a couple of tables. Sara is going to take the entertainment center and the couch and possibly the end tables. Eric and my dad cleaned out the attic and Eric took home boxes and boxes of baseball cards. I forgot just how many were up there. I found my rocking horse which made me very happy. There is a cool story about it and I will tell that in another entry with pics included. I also brought home my baby cradle that I had for both kids when they were born. I'm not giving that away.

The clean up took all day and no we aren't finished. Another Saturday, maybe two and we should be done. We cleaned up a little bit and Sara took me out for an early supper for Mother's Day. We went to Olive Garden, Soup, Salad and breadsticks...yummmmy! George tagged along and had steak...of course. We were all pretty tired and had long drives to our respective homes so we said goodbye in the parking lot and went home. We still had to drop off Jon's truck and pick up my car so we never got home until 7:00. What a long and exhausting day!

Yesterday was a quiet and relaxing day. George and I made breakfast and he took off to do the grocery shopping while I cleaned the bathroom and kitchen. After we got the groceries put away, I sat on my butt for an hour or so and read some of my book. I have about 70 pages left in the last book of the Twilight series which I should finish either tonight ot tomorrow. Eric called to wish me a Happy Mother's Day and let me know he was on his way to the Boston Burins hockey game in Boston. I have no idea if they won but I am sure Eric and Jessie had a good time.
I took Hunter for a short walk in the afternoon. It was a little chilly and windy, so we didn't stay out too long. There wasn't anything on television so I worked on a jigsaw puzzle for awhile.
George cooked supper on the grill...we remarked at how fast the damn weekend went by, then it was time to clean up and get ready for another work week.

I hope all you Mom's had a wonderful Mother's Day. Have a great day today too!

Quiet Weekend

It's been rather quiet in my world. Not a whole lot going on. I've been doing a lot of reading when I have free time. I am about 200 pages from the end of Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyers. I really have enjoyed the whole series but this book isn't as exciting as the others. It's a bit predictable for me and I guess I am glad it is the last of the series because I really don't know where else it can go. A happily ever after, nonetheless.

Hunter is doing well. We've been taking him for a walk every evening after supper and he seems to really enjoy that a lot. Lot's to smell, lot's to hear. And he can use the exercise since he is pretty much asleep all day before we get home. I have to keep an eye on the ticks though since they are out in full force. I pulled three off of George last Sunday after he went for a walk out in the woods. So far, Hunter has escaped being bitten.

I am slow cooking some baby back ribs today. The house smells fantastic. We are going to finish them off on the grill in a bit. The meat should pretty much fall right off the bone. I also made some potato salad, which looks pretty darn good. George is outside mowing the lawn at the moment. He's been working a lot on the lawn and garden since he pretty much forgot about it all last summer. Things are starting to shape up though. As soon as I have something to photograph, I will post pics.

Friday night we met George's brother Ray and his wife Diane at Olive Garden and had a wonderful dinner. We have been promising them we would all get together and finally just set a date and did it. It was really nice, we had a good time and I am really enjoying having a 'sister'. Diane is also the only daughter in her family and she is the mother of 2 boys so she likes having some female companionship. I think we will be great friends as well. :-) She has a very rare form of Muscular Dystrophy so she is pretty much confined to a wheel chair but believe me, it doesn't stop her from doing anything she sets her mind to. She's got a wonderful sense of humor too...a bit sarcastic. Hmmm no wonder we get along so well.

Not a whole lot of news. The weather has been fairly good, a little rain here and there but no wash outs. Pretty nice spring for sure.

Work is ok. Just busy enough to keep me out of trouble. I am cutting back on the overtime for the summer because I really want to enjoy some of the daylight each day. It's bad enough I go to work and come home in the dark in the winter. Not gonna happen now that the weather is nice.

Hopefully you all are enjoying some of the sun. I think I'll go set out on the deck for a bit before I have to get busy in the kitchen again. Ciao for now!

Yard Work, Blood Work And A Day Off From Work

It's time for a new post, even though there isn't a whole lot to write about.

Spring has sprung here in New Hampshire. Last weekend George raked up the front yard and it is starting to look pretty good out there. There is a little greenery sprouting there thanks to the torrential rains we had Tuesday and Wednesday. I've thought up a project for my husband, too. The back deck is rather boring so I am going to have him build some flower boxes and mount them to the deck rail so I can plant some pretty flowers and dress it up a bit. I've also got a few ideas for the front of the house but since I have only been living here 6 months, I am not sure what may be planted out there.

It's very sunny and about 60 degrees here today but tomorrow promises to be a lot warmer. I am certainly ready for that. The past winter was a long one and even though I am not a huge fan of humid weather, I do enjoy the warm sun. I hope to be able to get outside and enjoy the sun this weekend.

I had the day off today and I had to take Hunter to the Vet for another blood test. Last month his red blood count level was low so we needed to get a recheck. I just called the office and the results were good...his levels are back at a normal level and he is perfectly fine. Just makes me shake my head because I can't help thinking it is just a plot to get more money out of me. I know I am being ridiculous and we don't always 'see' if something is wrong, especially with our animals, but it's always something, isn't it? Don't mind me...I'm just a skeptic by nature. But I had a feeling there was nothing wrong with him.
Hunter wasn't very co-operative this morning, either. He would not sit still and it took 2 adults to hold him down so the doctor could draw the blood. (He is only 13 lbs.) As it was, he managed to wiggle free before Dr. Ware was ready and that caused him to bleed a bit more than normal since we had to wrestle him down again to apply pressure to the area. He finally calmed down enough for me to clean him up. All that red blood in his white fur was a bit scary looking.
Once I got him back at home, he was fine and went right to his hiding spot in the spare bedroom and took a long nap. He is now out on the back deck soaking up the sunshine. I've got a load of laundry to fold and then I am going to join him.

Not too much going on around here. Everyone is healthy and happy. We haven't seen much of Patrick since we stopped Renee from sleeping here. In fact, he hasn't slept here one night since that night but he comes home from time to time to do his laundry and take a shower. Tonight we are meeting him for dinner in a couple of hours.

Jon and Nikki are home from their honeymoon but we've only talked to them once since they got back. The only one of George's kids who calls and stops by is Nicole and we hear from her a couple times a week. She dropped some books off for me on Wednesday and tomorrow we are going to take the grandkids for a few hours so she and Matt can go out with some friends.

My kids are both doing ok. Eric is still unemployed but he keeps looking. Sara is doing just fine.

I am heading out to get that laundry dealt with and catch some sun before George gets home from work. Hope everyone is having a good day. Get outside this weekend if you can and enjoy the fresh air!

A Mid Week Post

I think Spring is finally here in the northern part of the country. I say this because even with prescription allergy medication, I am still suffering from hay fever/allergies. I can be driving along in my car perfectly fine then all of a sudden, the nose starts itching and my eyes will water. I often look like I've received some really bad news and can't stop crying. Yesterday was one of those days where I would be reduced to 'tears' in a flash. This morning, my eyes are a bit red and sore but so far, no waterworks. Of course, it is early and the allergens that cause me such problems are probably still asleep.

I have noticed that Hunter has been shedding his winter coat as well. He doesn't shed much but I've been finding a lot more white doggie hairs all over my clothes and the sofa. I wish I could just take the vaccuum cleaner hose to him but he isn't real fond of the vaccuum cleaner. The good thing is the shedding only lasts a week or two and usually a good bath will help so I think the ole poochie will be seeing the tub real soon.

All of the snow in our back yard is finally gone. I noticed that last Wednesday when I was out on the deck, the last stubborn patch was down to about the size of a snowball. Yesterday the Fish and Game announced the "Ice Out" on Lake Winni too...which is cause for celebration up here. Simply put, it means the entire lake is now free of any ice and the Mt. Washington boat can make it's way all around the lake with no issues. Let the Summer begin!

It's been a busy couple of weeks for my family with the wedding and all of those festivities, Easter and a few more birthdays to finish off the month. On Sunday, my parents celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary. Monday is Mom's 79th birthday and Tuesday is Sara's 24th birthday. I think that should do it until May when we start all over again.

On an interesting side note, next month George's cousin will be ordained a Bishop in the Catholic Church. We got the news yesterday that he will have his ordination ceremony in Quebec City. If we can get tickets to the event, we will go. It's very exciting! I suppose I had better clean up my mouth so I don't embarrass anyone. LOL

That's about it for now. I really should be getting back to work.

Have a wonderful day!

Wedding Pics!

I finally got around to uploading and editing pics from the wedding last weekend. These are mostly pics from my camera taken by me so there was only one picture of me on here but I know others were taken so as soon as I get ahold of them, I will post them. As long as they aren't horrible, that is.
The wedding went off without a hitch although it was a rainy day. Rain is supposed to mean good luck so we will go along with that. The bride was lovely, the groom handsome and everyone seemed to have a good time. Jon made the mistake of the day when reciting his vows, he said, "I, Nikki take you Jon", then corrected himself and everyone had a great chuckle out of that. He is a bit of a pefectionist so it was quite humbling for him. At least he had the correct names, could have been worse if he said someone else's name entirely.
I sat with my kids and George's brother Ray, his wife Diane and my new nephews, Kris and Keith. Kris's girlfriend Elie also sat with us. We all had a wonderful time together.
Jessie caught the bridal bouquet which is nice since she will probably be the next bride but for some reason the pics I took didn't come out very clearly.
The food was delicious and it was a very nice evening. There were a couple of disappointing moments which I will blog about at another time. I'm still sorting out my feelings about them right now. But all in all...the wedding was beautiful.
So here are some pics of the evening. I am glad it's all over.
Enjoy!

Busy Week Coming Up

Hello to all. Just a quick post to let everyone know how we are in the Northeast today.

It's been a busy week and next week will be busier with Jon and Nikki's wedding happening on April 4th. Thursday night the guys are taking Jon to a Bruins hockey game by Limo for his Bachelor Party. There are 10 guys going and it is still a surprise for Jon as far as I know. That same evening, some of us girls are going out for a few drinks with Nikki. Sara is coming up from Massachusetts to join in the fun and she will be coming home with me to spend the night here. She has Friday off but this Friday I have to work but she can hang out here with the Pup and enjoy some quality time with Hunter.

Friday evening is the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. George and I and his ex wife Donna and her boyfriend Peter are hosting. The dinner is being held at the Red Blazer restaurant in Concord and will be a very nice evening. We have 24 people attending the dinner which includes the bridal party, parents of the bride and groom, the brides grandparents and a few spouses and significant others.
Then Saturday is the wedding. I am excited. A year ago I wasn't even sure I would be attending and now I am married into the family! Wow! I am sure Nikki will be a beautiful bride and I will definitely be posting pics after the event.
My kids will both be attending with their partners and Sara and Brad will be spending the night here after the wedding since they have a long drive home. I am looking forward to having them here.

Not only is George the father of the groom but he is also one of the grooms men, so he will be rather busy. I am looking forward to seeing him all dressed up in a tux. I bought a new dress for the occasion. It is a black dress with a colorful jacket of pinks, purple, and white. I was looking for a shawl of some type but all I could find was black or white and I wanted something with some color to it. As I was about to leave the store, my eye caught these 3/4 length sleeve jackets. I first saw a black, white and grey one but soon found the perfect one with the spring colors in it. I may actually go back and get the black, grey and white one because it will go nicely with that dress if I want to wear it for some other event. It would also go well with a pair of black dress pants.

On the following Sunday, Nikki's parents are hosting a brunch for anyone who wants to attend. Jon and Nikki will be opening their wedding gifts there before going off to Florida on their honeymoon. We will go to see them off and perhaps have a waffle or pancake or two.

Yesterday I took Hunter to the Vet to get his teeth cleaned. Too bad they don't have dental insurance for dogs on my insurance. He had to have a gingivectomy, which is when the doctor had to cut some of his gum away from his teeth because the gum was growing over the teeth. The whole proceedure along with the cleaning cost me $300! We have to deal with receding gums, and the poor pooch has the opposite problem. Anyway, they had to knock him out for the proceedure and he was a bit groggy last night and most of today but seems to be a bit more active right now. I think tomorrow he will be able to eat a normal diet and will be feeling much better.

George and I worked our asses off today and got the spare room all cleaned out and ready for Sara's sleepover on Thursday. We took out the twin bed and put up the double bed, dusted, vaccuumed and I washed all the bed linen. I just finished making up the bed and I put some books in the bookcase. Tomorrow I am going to pick up my TV from my other house and hook that up in there. It is starting to look like a bedroom again. Don't look in the other spare room though cos all of the stuff from my house that I have yet to go through and put away is now packed in there. LOL I am waiting for George to go through the basement and get rid of some of his junk to make room for my junk. Then we will turn the other spare room into our office/computer room and move the computer stuff in there and out of the living room.
All in good time. I will take some pics of the house and post them soon.

It took a long time for the fog and clouds to burn off today but it turned into a really nice day. I think it hit 60 degrees and a lot of snow melted today. It is supposed to rain tomorrow so that will also get rid of some more snow. I had my snow tires taken off my car today so it had better not snow again until December or later.

George just took off to go for a walk out to the fields that he usually goes hunting in behind the house. There are about 6 acres of woods/fields out there and he has to cross a stream to get out there. I could hear the water rushing this morning when I had my coffee out on the deck so I hope he doesn't fall in. He took the camera with him in case he sees some deer out there.

I guess that's about all for today. I am going to see what might be on tv tonight and if nothing worth watching is on, then I am going to get back to my book. I've been reading a book called Lost Soul's by Lisa Jackson. It's a thriller/murder/mystery kind of read, right up my alley. First book by this author for me, not sure yet if I am interested enough to pick up anything else by her.

Oh...was nice chatting with Karla, Iggy and AliceKay last night in chat. Wow it has been a long time since I pulled out my chat fingers. Was fun though. :-)

Have a great evening.

5th Folder, 5th Pic

Ok so I am at work and I don't have 5 folders with pics in them on my work PC. But I was going to post a couple of new shots of my kids taken at the Boston Bruins game they went to last weekend. I got them both tickets to the game for Christmas and the day finally came last Saturday. Both said they had a great time and the Bruins won 2-1. The first thousand fans got commemorative St. Patrick's Day Bruins caps too so here they are sporting their caps.

Another Venting Blogger

It seems to be a trend lately but I was going to vent on blogger because of an issue that has been causing me some stress as of late...but the 'problem' corrected itself the other night so I don't have to vent. I am still going to put down my thoughts and ask for opinions...mainly because I want to assure myself that I am not the only one who feels this way, even if it is 2009.

It has always been my way...to not allow my kids to have their significant others sleep with them in my house. They can certainly spend the night if the weather is bad or for some other good reason, but to just sleep in the same bed with my adult children...it was not acceptable or allowed. If Sara's boyfriend spent the night, he slept on the sofa or in the spare bedroom. The same went for Eric and his girlfriend. While they lived with me, I was having none of that. And in turn, I did not allow any man I may have been in a relationship with to spend the night at my house while my kids were there. Of course I had no control of that when I wasn't at home but while I was there...no no no. Not gonna happen. My kids didn't like it but they accepted it. They knew Mom was pretty old fashioned.

George has a 21 year old son and he lives with us. The house rules are not the same as mine were and it has been an adjustment for me but that's just the way it is. Pat's former girlfriend would occaissionally spend the night here, and I mean once in a great while. I think she actually slept here twice from November through the end of December. They have since broken up and he has a new girlfriend, Renee. He and Renee have been going together since the break up of his relationship with girlfriend #1 and he never told us he had a new girlfriend until a night in mid January when he called here asking if she could spend the night. Now I immediately wanted to say NO freeking way, but George made the decision before I had the chance to voice my opinion, even though he wasn't feeling too comfortable with the situation. I mean, come on...we hadn't even met her or knew she existed. But it was out of my hands and Pat was given the OK. That decision turned out to be a HUGE mistake but it wouldn't rear it's ugly head for a week or so.
It all started one Sunday night when they came bopping in after 10pm. I was already asleep but woke up when I heard their voices. George went out into the living room and said hello, and asked them to keep their voices down because I was trying to sleep and I get up at 3:30 am. Pat knows this but apparently failed to mention it to Renee. It was quiet for awhile, then they decided to play a video game in the living room. This is a ranch style house and the living room is right on the other side of my bedroom wall. I tried to sleep but all I could hear was the repetitive music from the game they were playing. This went on until midnight, then they shut the game off and went downstairs to Pat's room. I know I could have told them to lower the volume but I was hoping to not have to go that route. Anyway, I was about asleep when they came back upstairs to use the bathroom. Shouldn't be a problem but my bedroom is directly across from the bathroom and as soon as the light goes on...it's pretty much in my face. My bedroom door was open but after that night I always closed my door when I went to bed. Anyway, I figured they would both use the bathroom and then go back downstairs...and be quiet for the night. Well, they went back downstairs and put the television on. After about a half hour of hearing that, I went to the top of the stairs and hollered down that they needed to turn the tv down, which they did. By now it was way after midnight and my sleep had been interrupted for several hours at this point. I was now anxious about being able to fall asleep and knew I only had a couple hours before I had to be up for work. I did fall back to sleep but when I had to get up, I was tired and cranky and kind of mad.

That night when I got home from work, George and I had a long talk and he was pretty upset that I was upset and totally unaware that I hadn't slept much. He apparently was not bothered by the noise and slept through it all. He swore he would talk to Pat, which he did and for the next couple of weeks, things were not completely peaceful but quieter than that Sunday night. Until Friday night, when they came strolling in around 11:30. They woke me out of a sound sleep laughing and talking, and George woke up when they came upstairs and were looking through the fridge for food. It was Renee's voice mostly, giggling and talking like she was at a sporting event or something. Granted, it is their spring break and it was Friday night and neither George nor I had to work on Saturday, but the house was dark and we were asleep. A little common sense people. By midnight, they were downstairs in Pat's room but we could hear everything Renee was saying and giggling about and it was apparent that we were about to hear things we really didn't want to hear. That's when George went downstairs and told them to quiet down or take off. I was surprised when they left 30 minutes later. It was decided then and there that Renee was no longer going to be spending the night here with Pat. Problem solved.
Pat was a bit surprised when his father told him the news. He actually had the nerve to ask why. What the hell is wrong with kids today? And why on earth do they want to sleep here when we are right upstairs when Renee has her own place? I don't get it, never will. But at least now I will be able to sleep uninterrupted. I suspect we will not be seeing a whole lot of Patrick but that's alright. He's old enough to be on his own.

George is always telling me that this is my house now. This whole incident had me feeling otherwise. It's really a difficult situation to be in. I don't want to come off as the evil stepmother, nor do I want to cause any kind of interruption in Patrick's life. I go out of my way to keep things as much as they were before I got here. I don't expect Patrick to take care of my dog, and I make sure I know his schedule so I don't hog the shower when he might have to get ready for school or work. When I have a day off...I don't vaccuum until he is awake and moving about. Any changes I have made regarding the household have been minor. Oh and he never has to worry about clean clothes because since I have been here, the laundry never piles up. That should count for something. LOL

Let me say for the record, I was initially impressed with Renee when I first met her. I liked the fact that she looked me in the eye when she spoke to me and she appearred to have manners and thanked us for allowing her to sleep here. But shortly after that introduction, she has shown very little repsect or consideration to us and in fact hardly spoke to us when she was here. I am sure she is going to speak even less to us now, but that's alright

Ok that's off my chest and I feel better. Actually writing this down has made me feel like I probably take things a little too personally. Well that's me and if all my problems are this minor I guess I have it pretty good.
Thanks for listening. And please do leave comments. I am sure there will be more 'incidents' that I will need advice about.
Have a great Sunday!

Our Toilet Paper Bride

As many of you know, George's son Jon is getting married in a few weeks. 2 weeks ago, Sara and I went to Nikki's bridal shower. It was a lot of fun and Nikki got a lot of really nice gifts, including 3 waffle makers. LOL I know she said she loves waffles but I am not so sure she needs 3. A couple of them have been exchanged for something else and she now has everything she could possibly need and want.

We played a few games at the shower and one of them was Kitchen Bingo. I didn't come close to winning that but Sara did and took home a nice gift bag with some shower gel and body lotion. We also had to guess how many Hershey kisses were in a jar. Again, not even close but the game may have been rigged because George was seen eating Hershey kisses before we actually started guessing.

My favorite game though was Toilet Paper Bride. We broke up into 4 groups of 4 and each group got one roll of toilet paper and 5 minutes to choose a member of their group and dress them up. My sister in law Diane and I selected Sara as our model but we weren't very creative in dressing her. Sara was the only one who had a garter though. In fact, she got the prize for being the trashiest bride. LOL Oh well, it was fun and we had a really good time.
Below are some pics of our trashy bride.

Engagements, Weddings and Snow!

Saturday, George and I had a pretty busy day planned. We went out for breakfast at our usual Saturday morning spot and then ran a few errands, bank, grocery store, pharmacy. Once we got home and got the groceries put away, we headed back out to visit my parents. We had some gifts from Jamaica for them and of course wanted to share our vacation photos with them. We had a nice visit and I was happy to see my niece there with her 3 month old daughter. I held and played with Kendall. She has such a goofy grin and is a happy and very squirmy baby. She really doesn't sit still for long and I think she is going to be all over the place as soon as she figures out how. Crystal informed us that she and her boyfriend are getting married in July when he gets home from Iraq. Happy news for sure.

After a couple of hours, we headed over to my house to check on everything there and to pick up a few more things. My Dad has been busy hauling things off to the dump and organizing the rest of what is left so we can have a yard/garage sale as soon as the snow melts. I found my file cabinet and we loaded it into my car, then headed over to visit Eric and Jessie.

This was the first time I was to visit them in their new residence and I was pretty excited. They live in an old part of town and there is a lot of history there.
Jessie's parents house is a very old home built in the 1700's. They have renovated a few of the rooms recently and the kitchen is absolutely gorgeous. Jessie designed it for them and I can see she has a knack for interior design, which is her major in college. The dining room is in process now and I can see great potential there.

We sat down after a tour of the house and that's when I spotted a huge rock on Jessie's hand. I asked about it and they both started beaming. They got engaged while we were on our trip! I couldn't be happier for them. They have come a long way and continue to move forward making a decent life for themselves. The wedding is in the planning stages but they have a date set, August 28th of 2010. Jessie has asked Sara to be her Maid of Honor and Eric is still deciding who he wants to stand up for him. I know her parents are happy and I am thrilled.
We had a delicious dinner and sat around the table after talking about our trip and their plans, along with a lot of other things. Eric is one who normally keeps a lot of things to himself but it was nice to see him animated and excited about their future together.

We left around 9PM and made the 90 minute ride home. By the time we got here, I was pretty much ready for my bed. I know I slept like a baby and didn't wake up until after 7 AM.

Yesterday, we didn't do a whole lot. George went off in the morning to deliver a sofa and loveseat to a co worker and I took care of a few chores then sat down and read. We spent part of the afternoon working on a jigsaw puzzle. It was a nice relaxing afternoon.

Today, the Northeast is in the middle of another winter storm. I took the day off today not because of the weather, but because I am not feeling well. I have been trying to get rid of a cold that has settled in my chest and I just wanted another day to rest and be aggressive with my meds. They make me sleepy so I really don't want to take them if I am at work. I have over 90 hours of sick time accumulated so I think I can afford one day.

I would say we have about 10 inches of snow on the ground right now. It started shortly after midnight I think and will continue throughout the day. I really have my doubts that spring is ever going to get here. The snow is really pretty to look at though. I do hope that LadyStyx finally got some of the snow she has been asking for all winter.

Have a great day. I am going to stretch out on the sofa and get back to my book.

Pics From The Cruise

Good Morning! I thought it was about time I post something. I've been really busy this last week catching up on laundry, house stuff and battling a cold. I have the day off today and it's pretty quiet here right now so here goes.

We had a great time on our honeymoon. The cruise was wonderful, everything I expected it to be. Plenty of fun, food, warm sunshine and interesting people. We did a lot of nothing, sitting in the sun on deck by the pool, going to the casino and comedy club in the evenings, hitting the karaoke bar and enjoying the view from our balcony. We did go on shore to Jamaica when we ported there. Interesting, to say the least. Jamaica is a very poor, deprived country. I was surprised at the huge contrast. The beaches were pristine, beautiful white sand and turquoise water but you go one block away from the resorts and the beaches, the area is very filthy and kind of scary. We were approached by no less than 6 drug dealers and George was approached by 3 hookers just while we walked to the gift shops. We walked around a bit but decided it was maybe better to just get our souveniers and get back on board ship.
Grand Cayman was much nicer, very pretty area and there was a lot to do there. We only had a few hours to spend there so I didn't get to see as much as I would have liked. Maybe another time.

Everything went smoothly throughout the entire week. The weather was perfect, mid to upper 70's most days and there was only one day when the seas were a bit choppy. Other than that, you could hardly feel the movement of the ship at all. I was happy I didn't have to use any of the seasick meds I brought. I did get a little bit of sun, which I wanted and needed. I was careful to not get too crispy. :-)

Our flights home were good but we knew we were coming home to some bad weather. When we landed in Boston, it was raining but that soon turned to snow when we hit the Mass/NH border. So for the next 60 miles, we crept along the highway all the way home. It took us twice as long to get home as it would have normally and we ended up getting about a foot of snow out of that storm. How's that for a welcome home?

Hunter made it through the week as well, although he had a much more stressful week. We left him with George's daughter Nicole on Thursday night. We thought that would be best since she has a dog and someone is home most of the time because she and her husband work split shifts so they don't have to pay for day care for the two kids. I knew if we left him here, Pat wouldn't pay a whole lot of attention to him and I didn't want him to go stir crazy being home alone a lot. The first night went well but on Friday, it was apparent that Hunter and Nicole's dog Pepe were not going to be able to get along. They are both jealous, both males and both not used to sharing. When Hunter bit Pepe, it was time to take action. So Nicole brought Hunter back to our house and decided she would just come here every day and spend some time with him, make sure he is fed and taken care of. When I heard that, I knew that was going to be a lot of work for her especially since she works full time and has the kids to look after too. So I made a call to Sara, and she came up here to get Hunter. She brought him down to her house on Saturday and it turned out being a good solution. She certainly enjoyed having her puppy with her for a few days and he was much calmer.
Sara doesn't live too far from the airport in Boston so we went to pick Hunter up before we headed home. It was a happy reunion especially between George and Hunter. They have both become quite attached to each other.

I am going to post a few pics from the cruise. I have about 200 shots altogether but a lot of them are just different angles of the same thing and I won't bore you with that. LOL

Back To Reality

Hi folks...we are home. Our vacation was awesome. Perfect weather, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, warm and relaxing. Until we hit Boston, then the fantasy of a warm tropical honeymoon in February went totally to hell. LOL Yup, we got off the plane and drove headlong into a snowstorm. How's that for a nasty taste of reality?

We made it home, I am now in process of doing mounds and mounds of laundry, but just wanted to let you all know I haven't forgotten about you. I will post pics and a recap of our week when time permits.

Hope you are all well and staying warm.

Wedding Pics For Your Viewing Pleasure

George and I would like to thank all of you for your well wishes. We had a wonderful wedding day and our wedding was quick, simple and intimate. We just had immediate family here at our house and our JP, Heidi and her husband. Everything went off without a hitch, and even Hunter was festive wearing a nice black bow tie made for him by George's daughter Nicole. I think everyone had a nice time. I know there were several pairs of wet eyes during the ceremony, including mine and Sara's. We sort of turned our 'reception' into a SuperBowl party since all of the formalities were done in plenty of time for the game. Several of our guests stayed for part of the game, which was fine by us. We did, however, kick Patrick out around 9PM so we could have a little time alone. Both of us did go to work on Monday since we are not leaving on our cruise until next Saturday.
I think everyone looked great, as you will all see in the pics. Nicole took all of the pictures for us and she did a fantastic job. Jon and Nikki brought the champagne and glasses and our cake was made at a local bakery, and was beautiful and delicious. Sara was my Maid of Honor and George's brother Ray was his Best Man.

So here are some pictures of our happy day. I don't think George stopped smiling the whole day. You have no idea how happy that makes me. :-)

Another Folder, Another Pic

While I was going through my pic folders, I came across this one of George and his daughter Nicole on her wedding day, 4 years ago. I love this photo because you can see the closeness between them. He looks so proud, and also a little sad that his baby girl is all grown up. There's no denying that she is his daughter, check out their noses. ;-)

I've Been Tagged

1. Choose the 4th folder where you store your pictures on your computer.
2. Select the 4th picture in the folder.
3. Explain the picture.
4. Tag four people to do the same.

Well I am not going to tag anyone since everyone seems to have done this already. But I did find my fourth pic in my fourth folder.

This is a photo of some of George's family in Canada. Last summer we went up to Quebec City for a family reunion and someone took pics of all of us at the tables before dinner. The party was a send off for George's Uncle Leonid, who was 93 years old and was returning to Peru to live out the remainder of his life. He's been a missionary for over 60 years all over South America. He wanted to make one last trip to Canada to say goodbye to his family since he is in failing health. Starting from the left and going around the table is Phillippe, Sophia, George's cousin Lise, George, me, George's sister in law Diane, George's brother Ray, Lise's son Pierre, Lise's daughter, who's name escapes me, and George's cousin Diane. There were family members from all over Canada and a few from the US, approximately 75 people showed up. It was a bittersweet weekend, for sure.
